My attempt at a Smoothie Bowl

January 25, 2017

I’m 99% sure I’ve said this almost every year since I graduated high school and moved to Ottawa and had to cook for myself – but this year I plan on cooking more. Like actually making meals that have more than 5 ingredients. Finding the time to actually make a full meal has been a bit of a struggle. Plus cooking for one person is sort of boring but I’m sort of on the right track. By the end of 2017 hopefully I’ll have like 5 (maybe 10) new recipes in my recipe book.

I took the first week of January off of work and spent almost every day at home relaxing. It was the first time in years that I’ve taken time off to just do nothing and it was wonderful. The first couple of days after New Year’s were a bit of a struggle – I’m not good at staying in one place and not doing something. I thought about going into work but forced myself to stay home and enjoy the few days I had left. One of the things I decided to do was try out a few smoothie bowls. I’m hooked. Like seriously cannot get enough – need to make one every single day – obsessively searching Instagram for beautiful smoothie bowl photos. Clearly I need some work on my smoothie bowl photography skills…

I eventually realized that you can basically throw anything into a smoothie bowl and it ends up being delicious. So thats sort of what I did here but I’m going to share the recipe anyway. Because this is my space and I’ll do what I want 😉

  • About 1 cup of frozen strawberries
  • Handful of frozen avocado
  • 1 Fresh Banana
  • 1/2 cup of plain Greek yogurt
  • Tablespoon of honey
  • Granola
  • Chia seeds
  • Coconut flakes

  1. Blend the frozen strawberries, avocado, yogurt, and honey until its smooth
  2. Pour the frozen smoothie into a pretty looking bowl and top with the granola, chia seeds, coconut flakes and banana
  3. Enjoy. Right away – otherwise it starts to melt and it’s a disaster.
